Sponsorship advert textual analysis + Pop-up advertising

This piece of research will help me find out what channel my sponsorship advert would sponsor and what program would be best suited considering the programs target audience and subject matter. I will also be able to identify the structure of each sponsorship advert and add these to my advert

What happens
Comments on content and structure etc.

We Buy Any Car- A man sings next to a car singing the words “We buy any car” He then leans against the car and it disappears. He falls over then says “Sponsors motoring all day”
- Advert is 9 seconds long
- Sponsors Top Gear, a car program. This advert is targeting younger men (20-30) who wish to sell their car. This is also the target audience for this program as it is very male dominated and the subject matter is mainly about cars.
- There is a banner that appears at the end of the advert which gives product information.

Harvey’s furniture.
Harveys Furniture -Furniture moves by itself around into a dinner table. A family walks in and sees the table constructed.
- Advert is 15 seconds long
- happy light hearted music plays
- This advert sponsors a family program (
Coronation Street
) therefore this advert targets a family i.e. who would want a new ‘family table’ this is shown by the family walking in at the end.
-This advert again has a banner appear at the end if the advert displaying product information

Cranium game. – Living +1
Property
Cranium - There is a group of young adults playing the game.
- Advert is 8 seconds long
- Many close ups are used
- Property programme on the channel Living is designed for young unemployed homemakers. From my exhibition research I found out this is the case. Therefore this product targets this group to perhaps buy this product for their family.
- A banner comes up at the ends which says “Sponsor’s great entertainment on Living”

Tombola.
Tombola.co.uk - Many different shots of a couple playing games. Filmed in a sort of montage way. There are shots of them on a beach, in a funfair and playing bowling.
- Advert is 10 seconds long
-Even though Emmerdale can be seen as a family programme, this advert is about an online gambling website.
- It paints a picture of a good day out which is meant to represent the experience of the online website.
- It also uses a couple to relate to couples perhaps watching this advert, this means they can relate to it.

From this I have learnt that:
  • Most adverts are on average between 8-12 seconds. My advert will be around this time.
  • The exhibition is important i.e. which channel it’s shown on and which program it is sponsoring. This is important as the target audience for the program/ channel is usually reflects to target audience for the advert.
  • There are many representations in these adverts such as family and couples, because of this my advert will represent teenagers.

From this research I have learnt lots of useful information about sponsorship advertising however I have also learnt that sponsorship adverts would not be the best type of advertising because there aren’t many programs suited from my products target audience. Therefore a pop-up advert would be more suited for my target audience as many teenagers use the internet more than the TV. As many pop-up adverts today are blocked due to increased internet security it is harder to analyse them, however I know that they should contain lots of information in a small space, should have some animated elements to them, have the product or service shown so people know what they are selling and should have something that draws people attention to the advert.
